The “heavens” in Valtorta’s work continue to tell the wondrous story of a God who, out of love, stripped Himself to take on the guise of beloved Humanity. A careful analysis of Maria Valtorta’s mystical visions, carried out with the aid of astronomy, allows us to date each narrated event. The most important “liturgical” dates are obtained: the birth of Mary and John the Baptist, the Baptism of Jesus, and the night of December 24, 1 BC, Christmas, which marked the beginning of the Christian era.
This is a surprising and unexpected result, as if Someone, through the codified “language” of the stars—in no way attributable to Maria Valtorta’s expertise and awareness—wanted to add something important as the author wrote, calling the Liturgy and the sacramental and mystical encounter with Christ experienced within it back to the center of Christian life.
Liberato De Caro, a physicist and researcher at the National Research Council’s Institute of Crystallography in Bari, is the author of numerous scientific papers published in international journals. Married and the father of two daughters, he completed his theological studies, required for the Permanent Diaconate, at the Odegitria Higher Institute of Religious Sciences and the San Martino Oasis of the Diocese of Bari-Bitonto.
