We were encouraged to this end by the numerous notes of the biblical scholar Fr. Gabriele M. Allegra, now Blessed, who at a certain point, almost as if expressing a hope, notes: “A whole book could be written about Valtorta’s exegesis…”
We have compiled a book [the new edition adds nine themes to the twenty-one chapters of the first edition] that examines as many Gospel passages, comparing them with Valtorta’s corresponding treatment.
The Gospel passages are reproduced verbatim.
The passages taken from Valtorta’s work are reproduced verbatim in the parts that most directly correspond to the Gospel passages and are summarized, for a fuller understanding, in the surrounding parts.
It is not, however, an automatic operation, a collage, but a compelling analysis, which highlights the validity of the exegetical solutions along with the doctrinal richness and literary merit, almost shining a spotlight on the details of the work that deserve to be noted and admired. An essay on the literary genre of Valtorta’s work has also been added in the appendix.
