Thematic Anthology of Private Revelations to Maria Valtorta • New Edition
A qualified reader had suggested we conduct a comparative study between the official Gospel source of public revelation and Valtorta’s literary work of private revelation.
The aim was to highlight how certain texts of the Evangelists are explained and interpreted in Maria Valtorta’s work.
In scientific terms: an exegetical study.
We were encouraged to do this by the numerous notes of the biblical scholar Fr. Gabriele M. Allegra, now Blessed, who at a certain point, almost as if expressing a wish, notes: “A whole book could be written about Valtorta’s exegesis…”
We have compiled a book [the new edition adds nine themes to the twenty-one chapters of the first edition] that examines as many Gospel passages, comparing them with Valtorta’s corresponding treatment.
The Gospel passages are reproduced verbatim. The passages from Valtorta’s work are reproduced verbatim in the parts that most directly correspond to the Gospel passages and are summarized, for a fuller understanding, in the surrounding passages.
This is not, however, an automatic operation, a collage, but a compelling analysis, which highlights the validity of the exegetical solutions along with the doctrinal richness and literary merit, almost shining a spotlight on the details of the work that deserve to be noted and admired. An essay on the literary genre of Valtorta’s work has also been added to the appendix.
Emilio Pisani is the curator and historical editor of Maria Valtorta’s works.
